About the Photographer - Peter Sykes
Pictured is Peter, grandson Nicholas and Pete's favourite arab stallion, Skye.
For Peter, photograhy is a passion. He takes inspiration from the world he lives in, the people and cultures he experiences and the manner in which people relate to their environment.
Peter was born in Goulburn in regional New South Wales, Australia. He was raised on a farm with a love for animals and nature. Peter spent his teenage years boarding at school in Sydney, developing a fascination in people and how they are affected by their environment.
Peter believes people are frightened by the differences in others, and that society categorises people by putting them in "a box". Cultures have a way of setting rules to live by and to conform to. It is the differences in people that makes the human race interesting and worth exploring.
Without promoting lawlessness or disrespect for others, (believing totally in respect for others, their ideas, opinions and the freedom of speech), he believes that we (people) should learn about ourselves and learn to be ourself. Peter has a great old saying "be yourself and say what you think, because those that mind don't matter, and those that matter don't mind".
Believing that people have adversely affected their environment and in the neccessity for creating an awareness of, and working towards caring for, our environment, he says that "all is not lost". Through the images that Peter captures he hopes to inspire people to have an understanding and appreciation of the environment in which we all live. "Many of the monstrosities we have built can be beautiful in the right light."
Peter enjoys photographing his home country, Australia. He also has a great interest in world wide environments such as China and Mongolia. He has featured these two great countries in his online gallery.
You can make a difference. You can change your environment with something as simple as a smile : - )
